How to make our favourite cocktails

Tis the season to enjoy a drink or two, responsibly of course. Here are a few of our favourite cocktails for you to enjoy this Christmas.

Spiced apple syrup with clementine and cloves

Mix this syrup into a hot jucie or wine for a christmas kick.

Ingredients

  • 200ml apple juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tspwhole allspice
  • 1 mace blade
  • 2 whole cloves
  • Small slice of ginger
  • 1 clementine, zest finely peeled
  • 100g golden caster suger

Method

  1. Heat the apple juice with the spices, ginger, zest and sugar. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Take of the hob and let it cool.
  3. Once cold, strain the syrup into small bottles.

Bourbon Old Fashioned

Try this traditional Old Fashioned cocktail with your favourite bourbon

Ingredients

  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 orange wheel
  • 1 Maraschino cherry
  • 1 splash club soda
  • 2oz bourbon

Method

  1. In your favourite glass, add the bitters, sugar, orange wheel, cherry and the splash of soda – then muddle.
  2. Remove the rind and add the bourbon.
  3. Fill with ice.
  4. Garnish to suit, we suggest a fresh orange wheel or a slither of orange rind.

Martini

“shaken not stirred”, oh please! Make it however you want it, it’s way more flexible than you might think.

Ingredients

  • 2oz dry gin
  • 1oz dry vermouth
  • 1 dash orange bitters

Method

  1. Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and fill with ice.
  2. Stir well to chill then strain into a cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with a piece of lemon peel, or an olive.

Manhattan

The classic cocktail from across the pond.

Ingredients

  • 4oz rye whiskey
  • 2oz sweet vermouth
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 Maraschino cherries

Method

  1. Pour the whiskey, vermouth and bitters into a mixing shaker.
  2. Fill with ice, then stir until outside of shaker is very cold.
  3. Place your cherry into a glass and strain the cocktail from the shaker into the glass.

Bloody Mary

Fully-loaded!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon celery salt or (or plain kosher salt, if you prefer)
  • 1/4 lemon, cut into two wedges
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or less to taste)
  • Dash cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Franks)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated horseradish (or 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish)
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 4 ounces high-quality tomato juice
  • 1 stick celery

Method

  1. Place celery salt in a shallow saucer.
  2. Rub rim of 12-ounce tumbler with 1 lemon wedge and coat wet edge with celery salt.
  3. Place lemon wedge on rim of glass. Fill glass with ice.
  4. Add Worcestershire, soy, black pepper, cayenne pepper, hot sauce, and horseradish to bottom of cocktail shaker.
  5. Fill shaker with ice and add vodka, tomato juice, and juice of remaining lemon wedge.
  6. Shake vigorously, taste for seasoning and heat, and adjust as necessary.
  7. Strain into ice-filled glass. Garnish with celery stalk and serve immediately.
